An Etihad passenger flight from Abu Dhabi to Moscow had to make an emergency landing at a central Russian airport close to the Black Sea for “operational reasons”.
According to Etihad, the flight to Moscow was diverted to Rustov-on-Don riverside resort city.
In an official statement sent to Khaleej Times, the airline, without going into the details, confirmed the unscheduled landing of EY69 that took off from Abu Dhabi International Airport on Wednesday morning.
“Etihad Airways flight EY69 on May 16th from Abu Dhabi to Moscow diverted to Rustov in Russia for operational reasons. The aircraft landed without incident,” the statement said on Wednesday night.
The report also suggested all passengers and crew members were safe upon arrival at Rustov-on-Don. The flight was about to approach the Sea of Azov, part of the greater Black Sea and also close to neighbouring Ukraine, when the captain made the decision to land at the nearest airport in Rustov. According to a report by Bloomberg, the emergency landing was made after the plane lost cabin pressure.

Etihad aircraft diverted because of ‘operational reasons’
An Etihad flight had to be diverted en-route to Moscow for what the airline described as “operational reasons”.
Flight EY69, an Airbus 320, was flying from Abu Dhabi to the Russian capital yesterday when it was diverted to the nearby city of Rostov.
“The aircraft landed without incident,” said an Etihad statement.
Etihad said it would not add further to the details given in the statement, after Bloomberg quoted Russia’s Interfax news agency as reporting that the diversion to Rostov-on-Don in Southern Russia was due to a loss of pressure in the cabin. (The Nation UAE)
